These Will Be the 6 Biggest Hair Trends to Try This Spring - Yahoo Lifestyle

Posted: 23 Jan 2020 10:12 PM PST

Spring is a time for fresh beginnings, and nothing refreshes your look quite like a new hairdo. Luckily, the S/S 20 runways were rife with hair inspiration, giving us a glimpse into the biggest hair trends that are set to be all over our Insta feeds in just a few months. According to the runways, retro '70s styles will reign supreme, braided pigtails will be our new go-to paired with work suits (yes, they're all grown up), deep side parts are a must, and out-of-the-ordinary pearl and crystal embellishments will unquestionably add a pretty, of-the-moment touch for all your spring soirées.

Scroll below as we share the biggest spring/summer 2020 hair trends that you can try right now, and shop the products to achieve the looks.

Wet-Hair Look

Chic and shiny slicked-back hair was prevalent on the spring runways, seen everywhere from Chanel to Lanvin and Carolina Herrera. The fierce style can easily be achieved no matter your hair length. All you need is a generous amount of hair gel combed through from root to tip with a fine-tooth comb or boar-bristle brush, a glossing spray, and a shine-enhancing hair spray to hold it all together.

Deep Side Parts

It's time to try a razor-sharp side part in 2020. We saw deep side parts on just about every spring runway. At Chanel, they were slicked back; at Tory Burch, they were inspired by Princess Diana's locks; and at Michael Kors, hair was free-flowing.

Braided pigtails were paired with sophisticated suits and sharp tailoring and held together with seamless hair ties. This is a refreshingly cool and easy one to try and will exude an of-the-moment touch to your spring look.

Kaia Gerber’s Massive Givenchy Veil Is Destined To Be A Meme - Yahoo Lifestyle

Posted: 22 Jan 2020 08:51 AM PST

It's only a few weeks into 2020, and Kaia Gerber is already having an eventful year. Between brushing her teeth with her sunglasses on (can we talk about her Adam Driver phone case?!); a spot in Vogue's February issue looking cozy and chic; a starring role in a Ports 1961 campaign; and an appearance in the Loewe spring summer 2020 campaign, the second-generation supermodel is everywhere we look.

This week, Gerber appeared on the Chanel spring couture runway wearing a white lace gown with a sheer black sheath, tights with thick socks, and slicked-back hair (and yes, we are copying this full look immediately). She also walked the runway at the Alyx Studio Autumn Winter 2020 show, rocking a futuristic black peacoat look the model dubbed a "matrix fantasy" on Instagram. Then, yesterday, Kaia closed the Givenchy couture show (a major honor in the fashion world) wearing a voluminous wedding gown with a dome-like veil trailing behind her.

The collection as a whole was inspired by designer Clare Waight Keller's deep love for gardens, specifically the garden rooms at Sissinghurst House by Vita Sackville-West, and love letters between Virginia Woolf and Vita. The white, off-the-shoulder dress that Gerber walked in featured intricate floral lace details and "a hat so huge it almost formed a canopy under which to take her vows," according to Vogue

The veil — which is truly big enough for two — is strange, beautiful, and meme-worthy all at the same time. We can't wait to see which celebrity bride will don this unusual look on their wedding day, and if it'll spark a new bridal veil trend. It's like a dinosaur egg meets Cinderella's chariot. David's Bridal, are you listening?

Kaia shared what an honor it was to close the show on Instagram writing, "@clarewaightkeller you have left me completely speechless. words will never begin to express my gratitude & appreciation for this moment. thank you to the incredible atelier and everyone who worked so hard to make this so special." Naturally, we're keeping our eyes peeled for Kaia's other iconic appearances during couture week and for any memes the Givenchy veil inspires.

Here are the best red carpet looks at the 2020 SAG Awards, including Sophie Turner's modern Barbie dress - Yahoo Lifestyle

Posted: 20 Jan 2020 08:12 AM PST

Chrissy Teigen may have joked that the busy awards season meant that everyone had to wear their third favorite dress to the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards, but if these are everyone's third faves, we need to see their top two. Because we'll say it: The fashion was so on point on the 2020 SAG Awards red carpet, and it's starting some huge new trends.

Black-and-white was the color combo of the moment, and many stars even went for an all-black look for their red carpet looks. But that didn't mean it was boring! Voluminous silhouettes, bows, and jaw-dropping suits took styles to the next level. It wasn't all dark, either. Many celebs went for major pops of color, like hot pink, bright orange, and a return t0 the pink-and-red combo trend.

Another major trend? Belts were all the rage, adding a little something extra to the red carpet looks. Without further ado, we present our picks for the best red carpet looks at the 2020 SAG Awards. Spoiler: The Game of Thrones cast came to play.

Millie Bobby Brown

Millie Bobby Brown's monochrome white Louis Vuitton ensemble was a standout in the best way. The whiteout look paired a coat dress with pants and silver accents. We're basically in love.

Sophie Turner

If you could take your eyes off her stunning, sky-high lashes, you'd fall for her modern-Barbie red carpet look. The color, the belt, the neckline—everything about Sophie Turner's Louis Vuitton dress was on point.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez brought the drama in her Valentino ball gown with the oversized bow and diamond accessories galore. She may not have won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for Hustlers, but she won everyone's hearts on the red carpet.

Lupita Nyong'o

Lupita Nyong'o took the black-and-white trend to another level with her floral Louis Vuitton gown. The dress, her styling, and her whole beauty look is giving us Old Hollywood glamour.

Zoë Kravitz

Audrey Hepburn, is that you? Maybe Zoë Kravitz was channeling Season 1 of Big Little Lies with her gloves and Oscar de la Renta gown that was retro and so modern at the same time. That peachy color? Stunning.

Gwendoline Christie

If you think black dresses are a snooze on the red carpet, just get one look at Gwendoline Christie's oversized Rick Owens gown and you'll change your mind. Of course, Brienne of Tarth could pull off that volume.

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron's two-piece wonder from Givenchy brought the glitz. She rocked a shimmery crop top, silver belt, and even Tiffany diamonds to accent the part in her hair.

Nathalie Emmanuel

Between the floral print and the bow, we couldn't look away from Game of Thrones' Nathalie Emmanuel's red carpet gown by Miu Miu. It could have looked over-the-top, but her hairstyle and natural makeup (styled by Neeko for Dove Hair) made the perfect pairing.

Kathryn Newton

The Big Little Lies and The Society star Kathryn Newton wow-ed on the SAG red carpet with this orange, Valentino gown that she said made her feel like the sun. What we wouldn't give to twirl around in this one.

Margaret Qualley

Yes, hello, we'd like to purchase Margaret Qualley's entire look so we can feel like a boss on the regular. The Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood and Fosse/Verdon actress glittered in her Chanel suit, and her ponytail was the perfect accent.

Cynthia Erivo

Cynthia Erivo (who is on her way to an EGOT) proved that red-and-pink is still the color-combo trend of the moment. This fun Schiaparelli gown livened up some of the neutral colors on the SAG silver carpet.

Lili Reinhart

Lili Reinhart went with the black-and-white trend for the SAG Awards, and we are swooning over the romantic silhouette of her Miu Miu gown. She certainly made a statement in her first SAG Awards appearance ever.

It's been two years since Hollywood's red-carpet blackout, when female stars wore all-black to the Golden Globes to show solidarity with the #MeToo movement, and Time's Up pins were the hot accessory.

But at the 2020 Golden Globes on Sunday, on the eve of Harvey Weinstein's trial, at an awards show where female nominees were entirely shut out of the Best Director category, the only statement on the red carpet was pure fashion.

More from WWD

It is a new decade after all, and maybe the idea is to look forward, not dwell on the past — or even the woes of the present, Australian wildfires and Iran threat among them.

Hollywood can always be counted on for escapism and we need it now more than ever. So bring on the puffy sleeves ("Booksmart" star Kaitlyn Dever in a lush floral lace Valentino and Dakota Fanning in a lavender princess Dior gown); pastels ("Fosse/Verdon" actress Michelle Williams in creamsicle Louis Vuitton and Cate Blanchett in a lemony yellow Mary Katrantzou sun pleat goddess gown), and everyone's perennial favorite red carpet red ("Bombshell" actress Nicole Kidman in a hip draped Versace).

Never mind that there were some real clunkers — Taylor Swift in an Etro gown resembling wallpaper; Gwyneth Paltrow in a Fendi caramel-color tulle bra situation, and J.Lo gift-wrapped in Valentino like a leftover Christmas present.

Gender-blending styles, which could be read as a kind of detente between the sexes I suppose, made a big impact. One of the night's major trends was tuxedos, or "sex-edos," as stylist Law Roach calls them.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge looked like the boss actor-writer-director triple threat she is in a Ralph & Russo beaded tuxedo with a new gamine hairdo and Awkwafina's Dior tuxedo dress with frilly bow collar was fresh and elegant. Cynthia Erivo paid homage to her corseted character in "Harriet" with a corseted Thom Browne tuxedo gown with pearly neckline and peony details (Erivo's favorite flower). It was couture that felt oh-so-personal.

"She is so inspiring because the quality of the work comes first," Browne said of the star, though he just as well could have been describing his own approach. The embroidery on the gown took 11 people 800 hours. Wow.

Billy Porter bookended his famous tuxedo-gown hybrid from the 2019 Oscars with a custom white tuxedo with detachable feather train by designer Alex Vinash. "I'm fascinated by how the meaning of a tuxedo has evolved over time," Porter's stylist Sam Ratelle told WWD. "Plus, Billy loves trains and capes. He said, 'I just want to look like André Leon Talley all the time!'"

The color white was meant to represent "peace and hope, which given what's happened in the last couple of weeks, is something we want to push," added Ratelle. Indeed.

Roach dressed Kerry Washington in an Altuzarra pre-fall "sex-edo" that involved a crystal body chain, side-slit skirt and blazer. It was hot — and came together in just a couple of weeks, Roach said, after Altuzarra's team originally passed.

All of the big fashion brands were represented, natch. But it was a great night for Chanel, kicking off the first red carpet season since Karl Lagerfeld's death. The couture looks by artistic director Virginie Viard shined with a new approachability. Exhibit A: Margot Robbie's stunning multicolored embroidered bustier and ivory satin crepe skirt — with pockets. With her beachy blonde waves, this was not your grandmother's couture. "The attitude and ease is what I love about it," said stylist Kate Young. Margaret Qualley's strapless black dress with white camelia brooch was also casually elegant.

Iris van Herpen isn't a name you see on the red carpet so much, which is why it was such a brilliant call for up-and-comer Joey King to wear it. Against red carpet vets like Blanchett, Kidman, Paltrow and more, she was able to make an outsized impression by choosing the fashion futurist's black-and-white, optic illusion gown, and people couldn't stop staring at it and posting about it.

"It was her moment to shine," said stylist Jared Eng of the Best Actress in a Miniseries nominee. "Joey has such a unique and quirky personality, we wanted to reflect that…." Now that's 2020 vision.
