Marchesa Cancels NYFW Show

Marchesa has cancelled the brand’s autumn/winter 2018 show at New York Fashion Week. Scheduled to take place on February 14, the womenswear label will now debut its latest collection in a digital format.

"Marchesa is looking forward to presenting [its] fall 18 collection in an updated format this season," a spokesperson has said on behalf of co-founders Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig.

The business move follows the brand’s decision to forgo press appointments and distribute images of Marchesa’s pre-fall 2018 collection via a digital lookbook earlier in January.

Chapman and Craig were in the midst of presenting the 2018 Marchesa bridal collection when the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke in the New York Times in October 2017. As allegations of sexual harassment against him mounted, Chapman issued a statement that she would be leaving her husband, with whom she has two children.

“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband,” Chapman said. “Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.”

Reports have since suggested that Weinstein will pay Chapman a divorce agreement worth an estimated £11-15 million, according to Page Six. It is also believed that Chapman will get primary custody of their children.

Marchesa is the latest fashion house to forgo the traditional New York Fashion Week schedule. Victoria Beckham is moving to London Fashion Week in September as part of her brand’s 10th birthday celebrations, and Alexander Wang will adopt a new biannual schedule with collections presented in June and December following his February showcase.
