Setting A Casual Farmhouse Table

White is a hard habit to break. But why would you want to?

Setting a casual table with what is at hand is always going to have a lot of white in it at my house!

But casual doesn't mean uninteresting. What's the use of being surrounded by things you love if you don't use them often?

I have recently acquired enough transferware platters to use them as individual service at the table.

Things will be moving more to the indoors soon, and a platter makes a beautiful charger, or a handy way to serve soups, stews, or one dish meals with enough room on the side for a crusty slice of bread and a bit of crudite.

Up close and personal is a good way to appreciate your favorite little used china. Each pattern here is different, but the bowls on top unify everything for a beautiful table.

Since the platter colors are subtle there is no conflict between the differing hues.

For casual company I don't always have flowers, so I'm using additional favorite things in the center of the table for interest. In this case, more vintage china with a few shells.

Glassware is simple everyday vintage jam jars.

Coffee service is standing ready, and can even be whisked off elsewhere, if desired, in this sturdy and secure farm basket used as a tray.

A sweet little pot, a special gift, serves as a sugar server.

Antique creamware coffee cups.

An antique homespun tea towel.

A metal garden pot stand elevates dessert plates. But it could just as easily serve the dessert instead.

Quilted placemats are Williams-Sonoma. The stripe napkins are this season Potterybarn.

The woven cloth is a South American cotton stripe that I got from an import shop years ago. I love the way it coordinates with the newer napkins.

The long fringed cloth is layered over a canvas dropcloth underskirt.

Coffee anyone? Thanks for coming by again!
 The door is always open.
Ciao! for now!
