Hi everyone, I've got a bunch of reviews on the way this weekend, but first, I wanted to tell you about a recent adventure.
On June 16-18, I attended the 2017 Awesome Con in Washington, DC. This was biggest con of any sort I've ever attended, the crowds were huge. It was held in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, which is a massive structure. I was accompanied to the con by RigbyMel, my co-blogger at Holiday Film Reviews (who also happens to be my wife).
Like most cons, it was filled with tables of vendors selling a variety of comic books, pop culture memorabilia, celebrity photo ops, tons of cosplayers and artists selling sketches. Unlike other cons I've attended, there were no Bronze Age creators on the floor.
However, we were fortunate enough to get a photo taken with the most famous comic book creator of them all!:
Yep, that's Stan "The Man" Lee, who was the Awesome Con's guest of honor for the weekend.
Awesome Con also featured a traveling exhibit called the Stan Lee Museum. This included lots of pages of original art from Marvel Comics and props from recent Marvel movies.
We had lots of fun checking out the museum!
While most of my comic interests are focused on Bronze Age stories and creators, I'm a fan of Ryan North, creator of Dinosaur Comics.
With Ryan North! |
North has also written Marvel's Unbeatable Squirrel Girl series and we picked up a collection of some of his Squirrel Girl stories (which he was nice enough to sign!).
This con was a treat for Doctor Who fans, since it featured photo ops and panel discussions with David Tennant, Catherine Tate and John Barrowman!
Catherine Tate was hilarious! |
Cosplayers were great, we met a mother-daughter duo who were dressed as Black Cat and Spider-Gwen:
I also managed to pick up a couple of Bronze Age reprint books, which will be reviewed here in the near future!
Awesome Con is highly recommended to fans of comics and sci-fi, I can hardly wait for next year's edition in March of 2018!
